If you are planning to do any painting in your home yourself, then follow these tips to keep things in perfect order. By properly preparing the walls, or object to be painted you are dramatically increasing your chances of getting a smooth finish. In addition, going through steps prior to starting your painting project you can avoid problematic spills, and inefficient clean up.

Do not simply run out to the paint store without first identifying which items you will really need to do the job. Look up a list of brushes and other items that will make your project easiest before you get started. Once the painting is done you will want to be certain to keep some of the extra paint for later touch ups, and reference should you want to do another room, or object in the exact same shade.

To be entirely thorough, write the name of the paint and the number on the can in clear view. And as a back up for you, and whomever owns the house next put a piece of painter’s tape with the name and number on the back of the light switch cover.
